Nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries VIDEX are a high-quality power source and have a long service life. This type of battery is used in portable electrical devices and tools. Among the advantages of this type of battery are fast charging and long service life. The “READY FOR USE” marking on the packaging indicates that the battery is ready for operation immediately after unpacking. If such marking is absent, the battery must be charged before use. Suitable for all types of loads.
The service life of nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries can be extended if they are properly charged and stored. Here are the main recommendations that will be useful to you:
1. Choose a charger specifically designed for charging Ni-MH batteries. Charging with an incompatible device can damage the batteries.
2. When connecting a battery to the charger, observe the polarity by paying attention to the “+” and “–” markings both on the charger and on the battery itself.
3. To allow the battery to reach its maximum capacity, let it go through 3–5 full charge and discharge cycles. Avoid constant recharging without full discharge — this сan reduce the available or rated capacity due to the so-called “memory effect,” when the battery “remembers” a smaller capacity and produces less energy in subsequent cycles, regardless of its actual capacity.
4. Charge batteries with a current of 0.1C, which equals 1/10 of the battery’s capacity. The optimal charging time in this case will be 10–14 hours. It is not recommended to charge longer in order to avoid overcharging and possible battery damage. For example, for a battery with a capacity of 1000 mAh, the recommended charging current equals (0.1C) = 100 mA.
5. Fast charging with a current up to 1C, where the charging current equals the battery capacity, can only be used if there is temperature and voltage monitoring, since high current combined with high ambient temperature increases the risk of battery overheating.
6. Modern chargers often use the “delta peak” method, which determines the end of charging by detecting a small drop in voltage when the battery is nearly fully charged.
7. Avoid deep discharge: voltage below <0.9V per cell can make the battery unsuitable for charging with most chargers.
8. Storage. If you plan not to use the battery for a long time, it is better to store it discharged, but the voltage level should not fall below 0.9V. To discharge batteries, you can also use chargers with a discharge function.
Choose reliable batteries and chargers from VIDEX.
